We started by discussing the goals of our app, then divided into groups to research similar applications and logos, incorporating our own insights and experiences. I suggested we regroup to share our findings, and then split into pairs to brainstorm additional ideas. We focused on potential names, logo designs, and how the app’s design could effectively target the right audience. This process highlights the importance of teamwork in web design; collective brainstorming can lead to innovative ideas that enhance a company’s ability to gain traction. GerardusJ. M. et al.(2013) mentions about how they use teams to effectively improve websites attractiveness and innovative styles.

As part of the design process, I explored colour palettes, considering how different colours can have psychological impacts. For instance, as a gamer, I find that darker and more muted tones are easier on the eyes, reducing eye strain. Blue is commonly associated with sports and sporting apps due to its psychological effects of enhancing focus and concentration, which are also essential in the gaming industry. The reason blue has this effect is due to it’s association with calmness and relaxation. Cherry. K. et al.(2024)
I proposed the idea of creating an app to help gamers stay active because of the well-known stereotype of gamers leading unhealthy lifestyles—often characterized by poor diets and lack of exercise. While gaming has its cognitive benefits, encouraging gamers to lift weights and improve their diets can positively impact both their health and gaming performance.
One key feature I suggested is a “necessary but fair” system where users’ smartphones link with their smartwatches. After a four-hour gaming session, users must engage in at least one hour of physical activity to raise their heart rate above a set threshold to unlock their phones. The phone would still allow emergency calls but limit other functions until the exercise requirement is met. This idea sparked a discussion within our team about how we could incorporate gaming elements into the app to keep teenagers engaged, increasing their chances of maintaining a healthier lifestyle.
